Ynys Môn Athletes Break Welsh National Records

Ynys Môn athletes Cari Hughes and Osian Perrin both experienced a record breaking weekend by setting new Welsh Athletics National Records.

On Saturday 15th March, Osian Perrin broke Roger Hackney’s 40-year-old Welsh 5K road record. Perrin crossed the line in 13:34 to claim sixth place in a high quality race. Osian claimed gold for Ynys Môn at the 2023 Island Games in Guernsey with a superb run in the 5,000m to set a new Island Games record.

Not to be outdone, Cari Hughes broke the Welsh women’s 5km record in France on Sunday. She clocked 15:18 to finish ninth in an international field where Ethiopian athletes filled the top five places. Cari competed for Ynys Môn at Guernsey 2023, picking up a silver medal in the 1,500m and a gold medal in the 800m, setting an Ynys Môn record of 4:20.42 in the latter event.

Congratulations to both of our athletes – we’re very proud of your achievements!
