Eight islands and 83 gymnasts took part in the Inter Games gymnastics at Holyhead Leisure Centre on Anglesey last week.

23 junior and senior men and 60 junior and senior women from Ynys Mon, Isle of Man, Gotland, Bermuda, Aland, Cayman Islands, Shetland and Jersey took part in two days of competitions with the Team and Set and FIG gymnastics.

The visitors also managed to fill their week with lots of training sessions, an opening and closing reception and visits to local sightseeing attractions on Anglesey.

The event was sponsored by Ynys Mon Charitable Trust, Horizon, Holyhead Town Council, Biffa, Land & Lakes, Unison and Central Lions.

Organisers Donna Jones and Emma Rogers from Ynys Mon Gymnastics Club would like to thank all of the volunteers, judges, spectators and teams for making the experience so memorable and a high standard of gymnastics for all to enjoy.

Among the spectators, were two of the ‘Mersea to Jersey’ group, Rob and Pete who ‘adopted’ Ynys Mon as their island of choice to support in the Island Games in Jersey and visited Anglesey for the first time.

Competitions were held on Thursday and Sunday.

On Thursday, in the women’s event Isle of Man won the number one spot for the team placings with Bermuda 2nd and Jersey 3rd.

In the Girl’s Team and Set, team Gold went to Bermuda, 2nd Isle of Man and 3rd Jersey.
In the male team events, Isle of Man took first place, Jersey 2nd and the home team Ynys Mon 3rd.

On Sunday the senior male competition was dominated by Isle of Man and Bermuda dominated the boys medals.

In the women’s FIG, the overall senior female went to Jersey’s Bonita Shurmer and Isle of Man’s Madison Nicol for the girls.

Medals were presented by a host of local VIPs and special guest Commonwealth Welsh gold medalist and gymnast Frankie Jones.
