The Ynys Môn team gathered at M-SParc on the island for a pre-Games meeting. At this meeting, all of the athletes going to Orkney 2025 were given their team kit and sessions were run by Esther Goldsmith (Sport & Exercise Physiologist); Nancy Lunnon (Performance Nutritionist); and Christie Marie Williams (Welsh Weightlifter, Commonwealth Games athlete). Our thanks go to these three and M-SParc for helping make the evening a great success.

As part of the night, the flag bearer and water carrier for the team were announced. These are important roles that make up part of the Opening Ceremony at the Island Games. As with the Olympics, each island will be led by a flag bearer and this year we’re delighted to announce that men’s football manager Martin Jones will be given the role. He has been going to the Island Games since 1993 when he was a player in the men’s football team. 32 years on and he now leads the team. This year he has done an amazing job of pulling a squad together under some very tight deadlines.
The tradition for Ynys Môn is that the youngest competitor will be the water carrier. The water ceremony — the Island Games’ equivalent of the lighting of the Olympic flame — is a symbolic mixing of the waters, recognising the Island status of the competing nations and their collective participation in this major sporting festival. This year the honour goes to Henley Moffat, the 14 year old swimmer competing at his first Island Games.
