With just a few weeks to go until we head to the Channel Islands for the 19th edition of the Island Games, we’re pleased to be able to announce our final teams for Guernsey 2023.
Triathlon
A team of six will competing in the triathlon at Guernsey 2023 in the colours of Ynys Môn. Penny Butterfield and Alys Jones will make their debuts in the women’s event. Joining them will be a team of four men. Mark Wyn Jones and Armon Williams will also be making their debuts for Team Ynys Mon. They shall compete with Charlie Butterfield (Gibraltar 2019), and Phil Lynes (Jersey 2015, Gotland 2017, and Gibraltar 2019). The triathlon will take place on Sunday, the first day of action, and will be on the west side of the island.
Cycling
This year we shall have just one cyclist entering events at the Island Games. Gwenno Hughes returns to the saddle with the aim of improving of her excellent results at Gotland 2017. At those Island Games, Gwenno came desperately close to picking up Ynys Môn’s first cycling medal since 1989. Racing in the Time Trial, Gwenno came 5th and then went one better in the Town Criterium by finishing 4th. Hopes high for Guernsey as Gwenno enters the Road Race, Time Trial and Town Criterium.
Swimming
We’re pleased to be able to confirm that we’re taking two swimmers to Guernsey. Hywyn Jones and Elliot McCarrick will represent our island in the Games. They’ll both be competing in the 100m Individual Medley, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly, and 50m Freestyle. It will be a busy week for our guys at the Beau Sejour complex and we wish them all the best!
