Basketball Team Announcement

We’re proud to now be able to release the men’s basketball squad for this year’s Island Games. A squad of eleven will be heading to Guernsey this summer with the aim of challenging for medals.

The island’s basketball club, Ynys Môn Celts supplies most of the squad, a testament to recent developments of the club. The Basketball Wales National League was created in 2021 to give men’s basketball a boost in the country. In the first season, Ynys Môn Celts finished sixth but improved this season to finish fourth. Playing regularly as a squad has helped develop the island’s players to now be able to compete in the Island Games again having not featured since 2007.

Despite the gap since Rhodes 2007, our 2023 squad features players with Island Games experience. Adam Williams, Neil Williams, and Head Coach/Player Sion Parry all featured in 2001, 2003, and 2007. Ioan Nickson also featured for Ynys Môn in 2007. That will mean Ynys Mon debuts for James Owen, Patrick Fairburn, Jacob Wright, Niall Williams, Llifon Torr, Morgan Revell, and Joe Hooton.

The basketballers will face Saaremaa, Isle of Wight, and Faroe Islands in the group stages.
