The first of three Ynys Mon Men’s Football trial games held on Wednesday (October 17th) at Holyhead Hotspur was an enormous success and a fantastic celebration of Anglesey’s male footballing talent, said Men’s team manager Campbell Harrison.

Nearly forty Anglesey-based players from a host of different clubs across the Welsh football pyramid came together at The New Oval to stake their claim for a place in the manager’s provisional squad ahead of next summer’s Inter Games Football Tournament, set to be hosted on Anglesey in June 2019.

Over 150 spectators were in attendance at the match, and with two more trial matches to come before Christmas, the manager Harrison admitted to having a selection headache on his hands going into the new year when the squad will be whittled down.

“Well, firstly, I think it has to be said that our first trial game was an enormous success and a fantastic celebration of the many excellent players we have on the island. It was brilliant to see so many players showing how much passion and desire they have for representing the island at next summer’s tournament.

“I’ve got some very difficult decisions ahead of me in the new year, that’s for sure, because these players we saw on Wednesday night put everything they had into the game and have shown such enthusiasm for the island – they’ve really done themselves proud – and we’ve got so many more players to see in future trial games to come.

“There was a real buzz at the match from everyone – fans, coaches, players, our committee members who are responsible for making this tournament happen – and the best thing is we’re only just getting started on our journey. There’s a long way to go, and this adventure for our island is only going to get more an more exciting for our island.”
